Born and raised in Chicago Ill. June 1957, where
as a teenager began designing and painting large outdoor murals as
part of The Community Arts Foundation, acted in productions at The
Jane Adam's Theater, became interested in stringed instruments (guitar,
mandolin, banjo) and harmonica.
Studied Film, Photography and Writing at Columbia College. Editor
and Publisher of The Paper Gallery, a Lit/Arts mag. B.A. from The
School of the Art Institute, June 1982. Moved to N.Y.C. Oct. 1982.
Through out the '80'ies and '90'ies Produced, Curated, Performed,
Painted, Sculpted; participated in and presented shows at Galleries,
Clubs, Museums, Universities, Elevator shafts, Beaches, Landfills,
Derelict Factories etc.
Has had Writing and Drawings published in magazines and newspapers
such as RedTape, Cover, NY Press. Designed sets and props for theater
and film. Films and slide shows have been shown regularly at The New
York Underground Film Festival, Europe and Japan. Co-Produced The
N.Y. Downtown Film Festival, 1996.
Yearly solo exhibitions of painting and sculpture at The Jon Gerstad
Gallery, NYC, '85 - '90. Founded and directed "XOXO" a gallery performance
space, June '91' through July '97'; curated art shows, booked performances.
Voted #1 Underground Arts Space, in the NY Press' Readers' Poll '94'.
Produced and hosted the music program for the First Street Music Festival
'98 - '00.
Julius Klein is currently working on completing a series of 30 paintings
to be exhibited, at The Deap Dale Gallery (NYC) in March '01É
